The Trail Companion
Fall 1999
Wild Lit
Haiku
by Patricia Dove
Miller
- Topanga
Soft salmon egg sky
owl hooting low and silky
echoes my father's voice.
Two young deer shimmer
behind a summer screen of
dry yellow grass
Clearlake
Red wing blackbirds
flutter among green tules
a shimmering quilt
Great blue heron
startled, swoops over burnt oak
recapturing his land.
