Guidelines for Submission
Suggested topics:
- Current trail events
- Significant issues of interest to the trail
community
- New projects/programs
- Project/program updates
- Interviews with leading figures in the trail and
parks community
- Hike/bike/ride descriptions and guides
- Reviews of books or journals on trails or
environmental topics
- Volunteer opportunities
- Literary works on the wilderness, the outdoors and
human-powered outdoor recreation (see below)
Articles may be up to 250
words in length (feature articles may be longer). We may
also be interested in reprinting or adapting articles
published elsewhere in print or linking to articles
published electronically. While not required, accompanying
photos are encouraged.
We welcome submissions of
poetry and prose on themes of trails, parks, wilderness and
the outdoors or human-powered recreation in the
outdoors--hiking, horses, biking, climbing, camping, etc.
Geographic settings should focus on the Bay Area, but other
areas of California and the West are acceptable. Poems
should be no more than a 30 lines; prose pieces should be
750 words or less. No compensation is available, but we
will send two paper copies of the issue in which the
poem(s) appear. Copyright reverts to the author upon
publication. Publication in the online version of the Trail
Companion is by author's permission only.
